Hawaiian “Opihi” or Limpet Shells
These shells are very well-known in Hawai’i for their distinct shape and color! They are very important to Hawaiian culture and can be seen as a prized delicacy, being eaten cooked or raw. There are only four different types of species and they are commonly found near rocky beaches. We typically find these in smaller to medium sizes, but on rare occasions they can get pretty big.
Note: Here at Salt & Water Co., we NEVER keep shells with live creatures inhibiting inside the shell. If we pick up a shell and notice it is full, we gently place it back into its original habitat. We strongly believe in giving back to the beautiful place we call home while upholding ethical practices, which means that whichever shells and beach treasure that we do not end up using in our designs, are later returned to the place they were originally found.
